Government House Pacesetters Basketball Veterans Laud PS Victor Udi for Outstanding Support, Call for Basketball Reform in Delta State


The Government House Pacesetters Basketball Veterans have extended their heartfelt appreciation to the Permanent Secretary of Government House, Mr. Victor Udi, for his invaluable support as patron during the just-concluded Warri Basketball Veterans Tournament.

The event, held on Friday, 30th, and Saturday, 31st May 2025, at the Government House Squash Court, Asaba, brought together former basketball stars, including ex-players of the Government House Pacesetters, in a thrilling display of skill and nostalgia.

In a statement issued by the club’s President, Mr. Odugala Ewomazino , and the immediate past President, Mr. Tuoyo Raymond Ogholaja and George Akuba, the veterans commended Mr. Udi for his unwavering commitment to sports development in Delta State.

"We are deeply grateful to Mr. Victor Udi for his exceptional leadership and support, which contributed immensely to the success of this tournament. His passion for sports and youth empowerment continues to inspire us," the statement read.

Veterans Decry Poor State of Basketball in Delta, Call for Administrative Overhaul

In a communiqué issued after the event, the veteran basketballers expressed concern over the state of basketball in Delta State. They appealed to the Delta state government to prioritize the sport, citing its potential to reduce youth unrest, combat drug abuse, and create scholarship opportunities for young talents.





They urged the Delta State Government and the Ministry of Sports to reform Basketball administration, ensuring that qualified Deltans are given the opportunity to manage the sport for better growth and development.


Tournament Ends on a High Note

Despite the administrative concerns, the two-day event was a resounding success, featuring competitive matches, networking, and a renewed call for basketball revival in Delta State. Participants and spectators praised the organizers for a well-executed tournament and expressed hope for more government-backed sports initiatives.

The Government House Pacesetters reaffirmed their commitment to promoting basketball among veterans and youths while advocating for necessary reforms to elevate the sport in Delta.
