Delta EXCO Approves Multi-Billion Naira Road Projects, N6.7bn UBEC Counterpart Fund




In a major move to boost infrastructure and education, the Delta State Executive Council (EXCO) has approved several multi-billion naira road projects and the release of N6.7 billion as counterpart funding to access the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) grant.

The approvals, granted during the latest EXCO meeting presided over by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori in Asaba, are part of the administration’s M.O.R.E Agenda, focusing on infrastructural renewal and human capital development.

Key Approvals: Road Construction & Rehabilitation

The state government greenlit numerous road projects across Delta’s three senatorial districts, including:

Reconstruction of failed sections of Uzere–Asaba-Ase Road
Aboh–Akarai concrete road with a 100m bridge across Okiri River (Ndokwa East)
Eku–Osubi Road, Okpanam–Ugbolu Road
Rehabilitation of Ekpan/Oviorie/Ovu-Inland/Okpara-Inland/Isiokolo/Kokori Road (Ethiope East LGA)
Construction of Orugboh Roads in Warri South

Additionally, contract sums for previously awarded projects were reviewed upward due to economic fluctuations.

N6.7bn UBEC Counterpart Fund for Education

The state also approved N6.7 billion to access UBEC grants, which will fund:

Construction, renovation, and equipping of public schools
Establishment of new Model Technical Colleges in Akugbene and Irri
Supply of workshop tools for Omadino and Oghara-Efe Technical Colleges

Other Approvals

Extension of electricity supply with six transformers in Warri South communities
Construction of administrative blocks and hostels for technical schools
Appointment of new traditional rulers across Delta State

Governor’s Directive on Education

Governor Oborevwori has ordered the Ministries of Primary and Secondary Education to assess infrastructure needs in schools to ensure effective utilization of the UBEC funds.
