DRAMA IN WARRI: How A "Soft Nigeria" Youth Rave Turned Into Flaming Shirts And Pro-Obi Chants!

WARRI, DELTA STATE

What was supposed to be an energetic Independence Day "Run & Rave" youth event exploded into chaos, fire, and political defiance at PTI Junction, Effurun.

The Stealth Campaign That Backfired

Thousands of Delta State youths turned out early for what was billed as a neutral lifestyle, fitness, and music event themed around the popular slogan "Soft Nigeria Is Possible." Participants hit the road for a 5KM run and music party, expecting good vibes and community spirit.

However, the mood soured when organizers began distributing the events custom polo jerseys. Upon putting them on or taking a closer look, alert youths discovered campaign branding and the face of President Bola Tinubu embedded into the shirt design.

From Rave to Rebellion: "Obi! Obi! Obi!"

Feeling deceived into participating in a political rally for the ruling party, the crowd turned hostile. Within minutes, the energetic rave transformed into a fiery protest:

  • Tearing the Jerseys: Dozens of young men and women stripped off the shirts, ripping them apart in the middle of the road.
  • Setting the Fire: Shirts were thrown onto the asphalt and set ablaze, creating smoke plumes across the PTI Junction axis.
  • Defiant Chants: Instead of lifestyle music, the air filled with thunderous, synchronized chants of "OBI! OBI! OBI!" in solidarity with Labour Party leader Peter Obi.

"We came for fitness and fun, not stealth political mobilization. Warri youths no dey carry last!" shouted one enraged participant near the scene.

Social Media Explosion

Footage of the event swept across Nigerian social media platforms, garnering millions of views within hours. The incident has triggered debate on political transparency and youth mobilization across the Niger Delta.

No official statement has been released by the event's organizers regarding the hidden political branding.
