Delta State Government to Launch Security Trust Fund with High-Profile Gathering of about 150 Billionaires

Asaba, October 15, 2025
 – The Delta State Government is set to formally launch the Delta State Security Trust Fund (DSSTF) at a prestigious fundraising event scheduled for this afternoon at 12 noon at the Banquet Hall, Government House, Asaba. The occasion is expected to draw an elite crowd of approximately 150 billionaires, business magnates, and philanthropists, reflecting the administration's commitment to collaborative efforts in addressing insecurity.

Presiding as Chairman of the Occasion will be Mr. Abogbe Ag-Imoukhuede, CFR, Group Chairman of Access Holdings Plc, whose presence promises to add corporate gravitas to the proceedings. The event's Chief Launcher, High Chief Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo – a prominent ex-militant leader turned security consultant and Chairman of Tantita Security Services Ltd – is slated to deliver a keynote address, pledging significant support to the fund's initiatives. Tompolo, whose organization has been pivotal in curbing oil theft and pipeline vandalism, is expected to emphasize the need for public-private partnerships to sustain Delta's fragile peace.

Adding intellectual weight to the launch will be the Keynote Speaker, DIG Marvel Akpoyibo (retd), Esq., ONR (Rtd), a seasoned law enforcement veteran whose insights on community policing and intelligence-driven security strategies are anticipated to captivate the audience. As the newly appointed Chairman of the DSSTF, Hon. Daniel Mayuku – a former lawmaker and Executive Director at the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC) – will outline the fund's mandate. "The Delta State Security Trust Fund is not just a financial vehicle; it is a beacon of hope for our people," Mayuku has stated. "With targeted investments in surveillance technology, community engagement, and capacity building for security agencies, we aim to transform vulnerabilities into strengths."

The event, sponsored by the Delta State Government under the leadership of Rt. Hon. (Elder) Sheriff F.O. Oborevwori, Governor of Delta State, will underscore the administration's zero-tolerance stance on crime. A poignant tagline encapsulates the occasion's ethos: "Enhanced Peace and Security in Delta State is a task that must be accomplished." Early indications suggest the fundraising arm of the launch could garner pledges exceeding initial targets, with contributions earmarked for equipping local vigilantes, upgrading police infrastructure, and launching youth empowerment programs to deter recruitment into criminal networks.

Governor Oborevwori, in a pre-event statement, has lauded the gathering as a "united front against the shadows of insecurity." He will reaffirm the state's dedication to replicating successful models from Lagos State's Security Trust Fund, a blueprint studied extensively by the DSSTF board earlier this year. "Together, we are not just funding security; we are investing in a prosperous future for Delta's children," the governor is expected to add.

The launch comes at a critical juncture for Delta State, which has faced sporadic incidents of communal clashes, kidnapping, and resource-related conflicts. Stakeholders, including representatives from civil society and traditional rulers, have hailed the initiative as a proactive step toward sustainable development. As the event approaches, optimism prevails – a testament to Delta's resolve to emerge as a model of harmony in Nigeria's oil-rich heartland.
