Bishop Elijah Orhonigbe: Why Christians Must Not Be Quick To Judge And Condemn

When it was reported that Bishop Elijah Orhonigbe had been arrested allegedly for rape, some Christians were saying, “That serves him right. Many are called, few are chosen. One down, more to follow.” It is quite unfortunate that when stories like this are being circulated, many people – even ‘Christians’ – begin to rejoice. What is there to rejoice that someone – a general – is down? If it is true that a religious figure has fallen from grace, the proper reaction of every true Christian should be to weep and pray for that person’s repentance and restoration. It seems that nowadays we have more ‘foolish Galatians’ in the church and all they do is to rejoice when they hear that somebody has fallen. Preachers have enemies too.
