A Man of Honour by Isaiah Ogedegbe

Who is a man? A man is an individual that belongs to the masculine gender, and has attained adulthood, perhaps saddled with family responsibilities.

What is honour? Honour is the bestowment of deep respect, or reverence upon an individual who merits it, often conveyed by presentation of certificates, awards, accolades, or honorary titles.

This year 2026, we are chosen for dominion, and our men in Gihon City Bible Church are men of honour.

Let me highlight the significant correlation between dominion and honour. Honour is a product of dominion, victory, or conquest. It is dominion that often paves the way for honour, much like the winning team of a football tournament being honoured with the cup.

A man of honour is, therefore, a man that is chosen for dominion, who is to receive a crown from the Lord after life’s battle.

In the beginning, God made Adam a man of honour not only to be in charge of God’s creation, but also to act as head in the home. Being a man of honour, he is a symbol of divine authority on earth.

He not only fears God, but also instills that fear into every soul in the home. When other minds become accustomed to rationalization, gentle correction by a man of honour becomes necessary. When their moral sensibilities gradually get desensitized, a man of honour conveys the truth with compassion and clarity.

We reside in an environment where the complexity of issues often leads to moral ambiguity, where the lines between right and wrong are frequently covered. As men of honour, it is our duty to uncover them.

A man of honour is a man of vision and purpose, who is not swayed by the wind of compromise, or condescension. He is a man of principles, for “Principles are more powerful than principalities,” according to Bishop Mike Laju.

A man of honour is a man who obeys God’s Word in everything. According to our spiritual father in Gihon City Bible Church, Rev. Dr. Lawrence O. Agbirekomi (JP), “Obedience to instruction is what delivers from destruction.”

A man of honour does not walk in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stand in the way of sinners, nor sit in the seat of the scornful. He does not have time for frivolities, but he is responsible and meets the needs of his family.

A man of honour is a man of integrity and accountability, who understands that faithfulness in minor matters is the sole pathway to being entrusted with more substantial, or greater responsibilities.
