SAPELE – Gunmen have reportedly abducted the Chairman of the Sapele Local Government Council, Mr. Bright Abeke, in a daring night-time operation.
The Incident
The abduction took place late yesterday, Friday, April 10, 2026, along Owumi Road in Sapele. Sources indicate that the attackers, who were driving a Range Rover SUV, intercepted the Chairman's vehicle and opened fire.
During the violent encounter, one of Mr. Abeke’s security aides was shot. The unidentified operative sustained serious injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he is currently receiving medical attention.
Current Situation
The kidnappers fled the scene with the Chairman, and as of Saturday morning, their whereabouts remain unknown. No official contact has been established with the family, and no ransom demand has been made public.
Security Response
Security forces in Delta State have been placed on high alert. Operatives are reportedly combing the Sapele axis and surrounding creeks to track down the assailants and ensure the Chairman’s safe release.
