ASABA – Delta State Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, has outlined the Governor Sheriff Oborevwori administration’s accomplishments in infrastructure, healthcare, job creation, and security as it approaches its second anniversary in office.
Speaking at a press briefing in Asaba on Thursday alongside the Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, Aniagwu emphasized the administration’s focus on rural development and equitable service delivery. He noted that completed projects have significantly reduced travel times, such as the Asaba-Ughelli route now taking under two hours, while bridging gaps in underserved coastal communities.
Infrastructure Milestones
Key projects nearing inauguration include:
- The Beneku Bridge and Ishiagu-Ewulu Road and Bridge.
- Upper and Lower Erejuwa Roads in Warri.
- Erosion control measures in Okpanam
- Road upgrades in Olomoro-Igbide, Otolokpo-Boji-Boji Owa, Akumazi-Owere-Olubor, and Obi-Ibabu.
- Progress on the Trans-Warri bridges, Ayakoromo Bridge (Burutu LGA), and coastal access roads.
Aniagwu added that due to the volume of completed projects, some will be opened for public use without formal commissioning, with State Executive Council members delegated to oversee select inaugurations.
Healthcare and Job Creation
The administration has installed advanced medical equipment at the **Asaba Specialist Hospital**, **Warri Central Hospital**, and **Delta State University Teaching Hospital (DELSUTH), Oghara**, to curb medical tourism. Over 250,000 Deltans have also benefited from job creation and empowerment programs, including the **D-CARES grant initiative
Security and Housing
To address insecurity, the government recently partnered with the Inspector General of Police to commission operational vehicles, while enhancing street lighting in urban centers. On rising rent costs, Aniagwu revealed plans for a statewide housing scheme, with pilot projects already delivering 50 units (30 three-bedroom and 20 two-bedroom flats) in **Ozoro**, **Owa-Oyibu**, and **Kwale**.
Governance Amid Political Activities
Aniagwu dismissed claims of slowed momentum, stressing Governor Oborevwori’s directive for officials to remain focused on service delivery. “Every project is promptly paid post-certification, reflecting our prudence,” he said, reaffirming the administration’s commitment to transparency and people-centered policies.
The commissioner assured residents of sustained progress across all sectors, with more projects to be unveiled during the anniversary celebrations.
